The history of Baffonero is studded with prestigious ratings and successes.
Baffonero takes its name from the similarly named vineyard, 100% Merlot, in turn inspired by a story characteristic of the Maremma area, made up of hunting, strong men, aggressive wild boars and brave packs of dogs.
The men and dogs that take part in the hunt gather just a short walk from the vineyard, ready to challenge the ruler of the Maremma woods. The Huntmaster has a nickname for the duration of the wild boar challenge. He is called the “Baffonero”.
Today, Baffonero is a wine which in its name sums up not only all these stories but, at the same time, the power and seemingly concealed elegance of a unique land such as the Maremma.

Baffonero takes its name from the similarly named vineyard, 100% Merlot, one of the first to be planted at the Rocca di Frassinello, the company whose story began as a joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Baron de Rothschild-Lafite, the most famous chateau in the world. The Baffonero vineyard lies below the winery designed by Renzo Piano, on terrain with perfect exposure.

In the first global vertical wine tasting across four continents, thanks to the technology of British Telecom we succeeded in doing this at the highest level. Vertical tastings happen involving people from different countries, but in our event there were tables with I Sodi di San Niccolò and Baffonero from Shanghai to New York to New Delhi, enabling people to share and exchange opinions about what our wines, though so characteristic and wedded to the land of their birth, Tuscany, have to tell the whole world in the different corners of the globe".
