A SPECIAL EDITION OF I SODI DI S. NICCOLÒ 40 HARVESTS AUCTIONED BY CHRISTIE’S AT A RECORD PRICE
On 2 December, the renowned international auction house has sold a Nebuchadnezzar of the Super Tuscan by Castellare, accompanied by a precious art book, for £ 4,655.The limited edition celebrating the 40 Harvests of I Sodi di S. Niccolo 2017 confirms, once again, that the Super Tuscan by Castellare di Castellina is a sought-after wine by collectors and fine wine lovers. To proof this, the result of the Christie’s auction held last 2 December during which a 15 liters of I Sodi di S. Niccolo 2017, blend of Sangioveto and Black Malvasia coming from the two best Crus of the historic Chianti Classico company, was sold for 4,655 pounds (5,476 euros) increasing the value reached at Pandolfini auction held in Florence, during which the same lot was sold for 4,800 euros.
The special format, produced in very few bottles, was accompanied by an art book with the 40 birds drawn by the ornithologist / artist John Gould (1804-1881) that appeared over the years on the labels of I Sodi di S. Niccolò. Translated into Italian, English and Chinese, the volume was printed in the press in only 200 numbered copies. To make the Nebuchadnezzar even more special, the label on which the number 40 is surrounded by the birds of Castellare, a symbol of the commitment to sustainable viticulture that the company has always pursued.
“Once again – explains Paolo Panerai, journalist, editor and President of Castellare di Castellina – I Sodi di S. Niccolò was sold at a record price at an international auction. A result that consolidates the prestige of this wine much appreciated all over the world and not only by critics”.
