I SODI DI S. NICCOLO’ 2014 AND BAFFONERO 2016 AMONG THE 10 BEST ITALIAN RED WINES
Castellare di Castellina and Rocca di Frassinello flagship wines at the top of Gentleman ranking. Two labels from Castellare di Castellina and Rocca di Frassinello, both cellars of the Domini Castellare di Castellina Group, ranked among the Top 10 wines of the Gentleman magazine list which traditionally rewards the 100 Best Italian Red Wines by crossing the ratings of national and international wine guides.I Sodi di S. Niccolò 2014, flagship wine of Castellare di Castellina, gets the 7th position by adding the scores awarded by the 6 most authoritative Italian guides 2019 (Gambero Rosso, Bibenda, Veronelli, Daniele Cernilli and Luca Maroni). But when these scores are added to those expressed by the most important international wine critics – Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate and James Suckling – I Sodi di S. Niccolò 2014 gains the 3rd position, just behind Tignanello 2015 (2nd) and Bolgheri Rosso Sassicaia 2015 (1st).
10th of the Italian guides ranking, Baffonero 2016 from Rocca di Frassinello, elegant and powerful Merlot, official challenger of Masseto (the most expensive Italian wine). These important goals reward Alessandro Cellai (chief winemaker and CEO of Domini Castellare di Castellina group), who works together with the owner, Paolo Panerai, since 1994.
But how are Gentleman rankings compiled?
Gentleman has drawn up the ranking of the 100 Best Italian Red Wines adding the votes of the most accredited Italian guides published in 2019. Three of them (Veronelli, Cernilli and Maroni) express the evaluations in points out of 100, while the others (who express their ratings with symbols, as for example the three glasses of Gambero Rosso) are translated into centesimal votes.
The ranking of the 100 Best Italian Red Wines is published in the January-February edition of Gentleman magazine.
