Starting from the terrific 98/100 awarded to the 2016 I Sodi di S. Niccolò, the flagship wine of Castellare di Castellina, that Galloni does not hesitate to define as “monumental”. “The 2016 has been nothing less than spectacular on the two occasions I have tasted it so far. It shows off its exceptional balance and pedigree. In a word: monumental”, writes in his review Antonio Galloni, unveiling his enthusiasm for the Castellare top wine based on Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera, repeatedly included in the Wine Spectator Top 100 list. “In addition to being magnificent, the 2016 offers unreal value in the world of high-end, cellarworthy wine. Don’t miss it”, adds the wine critic.

A stellar score has been awarded also to the 2018 Poggio ai Merli, Castellare’s Merlot in purity that gets 96/100 points. The critic considers the vintage “stunning for the way it combines the fruity intensity of Merlot with the structure of Chianti Classico and the vibrancy of the year”. “Even with all of its intensity – ends the review – the 2018 retains striking freshness and tons of verve”.

The 2016 Coniale, on the other hand, scores 94/100 points. According to Antonio Galloni, the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon of Castellare is “an attractive wine” and “The purity of the fruit is striking”.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva and the 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale got the same score of 93/100 points. In the review, Il Poggiale was defined a wine “engaging from start to finish”. As for the Chianti Classico Riserva, the American critic writes: “This is another fabulous wine from proprietor Paolo Panerai and longtime winemaker Alessandro Cellai”.

Finally, the 2018 Chianti Classico of Castellare scores 92/100 points. For Galloni it’s “an absolutely joyous wine”. The 2018 is so delineated, so vibrant and just so incredibly delicious. The purity of the flavors is just remarkable”. And then he concludes: “Best of all, the 2018 is a screaming value. Don’t miss it”.
